Matt Black Prints was born out of a passion for motorsport, design, and engineering.
Whilst 3D printing has become more mainstream, good quality products are still scarce and expensive – especially in the automotive sector. Our goal at Matt Black Prints is to produce functional high-performance parts at an affordable price.
Matt Black Prints was founded by Roland Skinner. Roland started out at Avonbar Racing as an engine and gearbox builder. He then went on to study aerospace engineering, electrical engineering, and product/ industrial design. He kept his love for motorsport and engineering, and now competes in hillclimbs and sprints across Scotland.
Roland built his first 3D printer in 2015. Originally printing with basic plastics he developed his skills in this area but soon found the shortcomings of ABS, PLA & PETG. In 2020 he started printing with nylon, developing both the printer itself and the designs.
